» tantrums
My son is 7 years old. He is very smart and does well at school in all areas. He has a tantrum problem though. They are worse and more often when he is tired and we do everything to make sure he's in bed by 7:30pm. You never know what will set off the tantrum and 99% of the time it's something very small. If he wants to bring a toy with him in the truck on the way to school and I say you may only bring 3 little cars not 10, then it starts. He'll say the same sentence over and over in vario...
» judgement day
I am a WELS member from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Mankato, MN. My daughter and I were speaking about judgment day. She asked me this question. I didn't know how to respond. If our souls leave our bodies when we die. they then go to heaven or hell. scripture says that on judgment day that everyone will be judged. both the living and the death. Since the dead souls either go to heaven or hell haven't the dead already been judged? thanks for your thoughts. it's alw...
» Living Together
My 21 year old son recently mentioned he was thinking of moving out of the house. He has been serious with the same girl for about 3 years. He mentioned possibly moving into a place with her. He has been brought up with strong Christian values his whole life; he completely caught me off-guard. I want to give him encouraging (to not live together), understanding, loving, christian advice. He knows what the right/wrong is. I feel like I've failed somewhere along the way. What bible scriptur...
» how to help my daughter deal with friends
My third grade daughter goes to our local Wels grade school. She has a class of 16 with only 4 in the class being girls. It is very evident that there is a " leader" of the girls, and she "sets the rules". This example of what happened today at lunch is what happened throughout the school year last year. The two other girls clamor over the "leader" they want to sit by her, be by her, etc. My daughter told me that today the leader said to the 3, " if you have hot lunch like I do, you are allowe...
» Afraid of becoming my step-father...
so, my real dad left when I was 8 month old, and eventually my mom remarried. For 15 years I've lived with him and hated it. Everyone in the family hates inviting us places because of him. He has no job and has instead chosen to yell at his children for a living. My greatest fear is that I will become him one day. I look at myself and see things in common, and it scares me to death. I've tried talking to my mom but she refuses to hear it. She says its just a teenager thing. Please help me...
» Worried About Daughter
Our 7-year old daughter is very independent. However, she has issues with lying and being sneaky. It may be that she lies about brushing her teeth when we ask her if she's done it or that she sneaks an item to school in her bag when we've told her she can't bring it. We have tried talking to her, taking items away from her, not allowing her to go to events, even spanking but the situation always happens again. She hates it when in trouble and clams up and does not look at us when we try to e...
» Incorporating youth in ministry
how can the church better incorporate the youth in our church and not only church services?
» Role of Pastor and Council
In reply to role of pastor and council does that mean that each congregation is an entity unto itself and there aren't any synod rules regarding the role of the Pastor and the Council of each church?
» Role of Pastor and Council
I grew up in the WELS and several family members have served on the council in the past. At that time the Pastor was our spiritual advisor and the council was in charge of everything else concerning the church. By that I mean renting of facilities use of property, upkeep, programs that may want to be carried out etc. Is this still the way it is or has this changed? Now does the Pastor make these decisions as he sees fit without the council's approval?
» AA Meetings and the "Higher Power"
I am attending Alcoholic Anonymous and I do not pray with them because they believe in a "higher power". That higher power may not be the Tri-une God and I will notjeopodize or put myself in the position of praying with unbelievers. Could you shed some light on this view of my belief?
